# How to Import Contacts into Hifunnel

Learn how to import multiple contacts into Hifunnel using CSV upload, copy/paste, or single contact entry with intelligent column mapping.

Hifunnel's **Contact Importer** tool allows you to easily migrate and upload contacts into your account using a Comma-Separated Values (.CSV) file, copying and pasting data from spreadsheets, or manually adding individual contacts.

## CSV File Requirements & Best Practices

Before uploading your contact list, prepare your `.CSV` file for seamless column mapping:

* **Required Field**: At least one column containing valid **Email Addresses**.
* **Recommended Columns**: Email Address, Full Name (Single Column), Phone Number, Tags, and Custom Fields.
* **Single Name Field**: Hifunnel requires a single name field. If your CSV contains separate "First Name" and "Last Name" columns, combine them into one column (e.g., using `=CONCATENATE(A2," ",B2)` in Google Sheets or Excel).
* **Tag Limits**: You can assign up to 100 tags and 50 custom data fields per import batch.

**Permission & CAN-SPAM Compliance:** Only import contacts who have explicitly opted in to receive email communications from your business. Importing unverified or scraped email lists can harm your email sender reputation and deliverability rates.

## How to Import Contacts via CSV Upload

#### Step 1: Navigate to Contacts Manager

From your **Hifunnel Dashboard**, click the **Contacts** tab in the main sidebar.

#### Step 2: Launch Importer

Click the **+ Import Contacts** (or **Add Contacts**) button at the top right of the page.

#### Step 3: Choose Import Method

Select **Upload CSV File** (or choose **Copy/Paste** if pasting rows directly from Excel/Google Sheets).

#### Step 4: Map Columns

Review Hifunnel's intelligent column mapping:

* Match your CSV header columns to Hifunnel contact fields (Email, Name, Phone, Tags).
* Choose **Create New Custom Field** if a column isn't automatically recognized.
* Select **Skip Column** if you want to exclude specific data.

#### Step 5: Configure Bulk Actions (Optional)

Apply bulk actions to all imported contacts:

* **Grant Offer**: Automatically grant access to specific courses or digital downloads upon import.
* **Apply Tags**: Add tags (e.g., "Import-Cohort-1", "Lead-Magnet") to segment your list.
* **Marketing Opt-In**: Check the box to subscribe valid contacts to marketing email broadcasts.

#### Step 6: Confirm and Start Import

Click **Confirm & Import**. Hifunnel will process the upload and send a summary email to your account upon completion.

**Duplicate Contact Handling:** Hifunnel automatically prevents duplicate contact records based on email addresses. If a contact already exists, Hifunnel updates their record with new tags or granted Offers without creating a duplicate entry.
