# Re-engage Inactive Subscribers

Learn how to identify dormant contacts, run re-engagement email campaigns, and clean inactive subscribers to maintain high email deliverability in Hifunnel.

Over time, a portion of your email list may stop opening or clicking your broadcast emails. Retaining inactive subscribers not only reduces your open rates but can also signal to mailbox providers (like Gmail and Yahoo) that your emails are unengaging, increasing the risk of landing in the Spam folder.

Running a structured **Re-engagement Campaign** in Hifunnel helps you wake up cold leads, filter unengaged contacts, and maintain a high-performing email list.

## 3-Step Strategy for Re-engaging Inactive Subscribers

### Step 1: Segment Inactive Subscribers

Filter contacts who haven't opened or clicked an email in 30, 60, or 90 days.

1. Go to **Contacts** > **Filters**.
2. Set filter rule: **Email Engagement** > **Has not opened an email in the last 60 days**.
3. Save this segment as **"Inactive Subscribers (60 Days)"**.

### Step 2: Send a Targeted Re-engagement Campaign

Create a dedicated 2-to-3 email re-engagement sequence designed to prompt action.

**Effective Re-engagement Subject Lines:**

* "Are we still connected?"
* "Should I stay or should I go? (Exclusive gift inside)"
* "Is this goodbye? \[Action required]"
  {% endhint %}

#### Email 1: The Value Touchpoint

Send an exclusive free resource (e.g., a bonus PDF guide or high-value video) to remind them of the value of staying subscribed. Include a clear CTA button ("Yes, keep me subscribed!").
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Email 2: The Check-in / Survey (Sent 3 days later)

Ask if their interests have changed or provide a link to update their email preferences.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Email 3: The Final Goodbye (Sent 4 days later)

Politely notify them that to respect their inbox, you will unsubscribe them automatically unless they click the confirmation button within 48 hours.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Step 3: Clean & Unsubscribe Remaining Inactive Contacts

If subscribers do not engage after your 3-email sequence, it is best practice to unsubscribe or archive them from your active mailing list:

1. Filter the contacts who received the campaign but did not click the opt-in link.
2. Select all matching contacts using **Bulk Actions**.
3. Select **Unsubscribe from Marketing Emails** (or apply a "Cold-Lead" tag).

## Benefits of List Cleaning

* **Higher Open & Click Rates**: Improves your overall email marketing analytics.
* **Superior Sender Reputation**: Keeps domain reputation strong with Gmail, Outlook, and Yahoo.
* **Lower Subscription Costs**: Reduces tier costs by maintaining a clean, active contact count.
