# Purchasing a Free Offer and Granting an Offer?

Purchasing a **Free Offer** and **granting an Offer** to a customer may seem similar, but there are important differences to consider.

**Granting an Offer** gives a customer free access to a **paid Offer**, allowing you to control exactly who can access the Offer at no cost.

A **Free Offer**, on the other hand, is publicly available and can be accessed for free by any customer.

Although both **Granted Offers** and **Free Offers** ultimately provide free access to your content, there is a key difference in how they work:

* Purchasing a **Free Offer** requires the customer to go through the **Offer Checkout** process
* A **Granted Offer** does **not** use the checkout process

#### What if customers don’t receive the Offer Grant Email?

The **Offer Grant Email** is sent as a bulk email. If a customer has unsubscribed from similar emails in the past, they may not receive the Offer Grant Email.

#### How is a customer granted an Offer?

Customers can be granted an Offer:

* When they are imported into your contacts list
* Directly from the contacts list
* Through an automation

#### How does a customer purchase a Free Offer?

After creating a live Offer and setting the price to **Free**, customers can complete the purchase through the **checkout page**.

#### Who receives the Offer Grant Confirmation email?

Newly imported or existing customers who are granted an Offer and are subscribed to receive your marketing emails.

#### Who receives the Member Welcome email?

New customers who are manually created on your site and granted an Offer.
